Region:
North WestOur motto is “Caring for Ainsdale” this is exactly what we do. Any monies raised from our events is used solely for the benefit of Ainsdale and its residents. Since our inception 8 Years ago, the Society has grown both in numbers and reputation. We are now one of the largest civic societies in the North West. We are proud of our achievements to date, as you can see from the list below. there have been quite a few and we hope to continue improving our village for all the residents.
The Society is non political, non religious and non profit making and is open to everyone with an interest in our village and who wish to be part of the collective voice to represent issues within our community.
We hold monthly meetings on the last Wednesday of each month at 8pm, usually at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Liverpool Road. We have a speaker with subjects wide, varied and entertaining, after a break for refreshments we discuss any Society business and matters which have arisen during the past month. Everyone is welcome to attend.
What we have done so far:
Donated £6000 towards providing a boardwalk around the Sands Lake to provide access for all. This has proved very successful and well used.
Organised the annual fun-filled Edwardian Day on the 1st Saturday in June for the everyone in the village
Erected a notice board outside the Post Office to offer a showcase free of charge to all local groups wishing to publicise their events which are held within the village
Provide and maintain the flower planters for the railway station platforms to enhance vistors’ first impression of our village.
Hold an annual Open Gardens Week-end in July so that everyone can experience the beautiful gardens owned by some of our green-fingered residents.
Installed the original Ainsdale Millwheel (the emblem of the society) in the new garden at Ainsdale Library.
Donated two watercolour paintings featured in an article about Ainsdale in Lancashire Life, to Ainsdale Library and the Ainsdale Discovery Centre
Donated an oak tree on the village green to celebrate our 1st anniversary
Instigated the renovation of the War Memorial on the Village Green.
Produced our 1st publication “The War Memorial” which gives an insight into those brave men and women whose names are engraved on the Village War Memorial.
The Society has recently produced a series of six Picture Postcards of Ainsdale and a set of notelets depicting the fauna and flora of Ainsdale which are on sale at various shops and outlets throughout the village. This is a way of sending photos of our village all over the Country and even throughout the world so everyone can see what a great place it is to live.
