Hoylake & District Civic Society

Information about this Civic Society

Its main geographical area of benefit is the area of the old Hoylake and District Council, now administered by the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral : this covers Hoylake, West Kirby, Meols, Caldy, Newton. Frankby and Greasby.

We hold a regular programme of meetings with guest speakers in the United Reformed Church Hall, West Kirby, on Tuesday evenings from September to March. Visitors are always welcome. Outings are arranged in the summer to places of architectural, historical and environmental interest.

We also organise occasional public meetings to ventilate subjects of special interest. Recent issues have included Regeneration and the Improvement of local Parks and Open Spaces.

The Committee meets on a regular basis to monitor local planning and licensing applications and to comment on schemes that affect the district. Our concern is to conserve what is good and to encourage the achievement of a high standard of design in new developments or in schemes of restoration.
