Civic Society Membership

The Civic Trust offers a unique and comprehensive membership package for organisations working within the built, historic and natural environment. Benefits include a cheaper insurance scheme, advice on incorporation, national representation on policy issues, a dedicated membership helpdesk, an interactive membership intranet and more.  However, it is the sum total of our membership that makes the Civic Trust Membership such an unique offering to our members.  Why not join us?

Membership benefits include:

Being part of a wider national network

The Civic Trust is the national representative for over 750 Civic Societies with a membership of 210,000. Members enjoy the benefit of being part of a reputable national brand with an influential voice on built environment, urban regeneration and design policies as well as local democratic issues like building sustainable communities, at central government level.

Members are able to share in the good reputation of the Civic Trust with over 50 years track record of working successfully with local and central government, through use of our Registered with Civic Trust Logo in all their correspondences.

Opportunities to influence our national agenda:

o Through our range of policy consultations, online surveys, discussions fora and direct action, members are able to inform and champion the policy and campaign priorities of the Civic Trust. A recent example of this collective action can be seen in the policy section in the September issue of Grass Roots.

o Through our affiliated body of 9 Regional Association of Civic Societies, our members have the opportunity to directly influence the governance and future development of the Civic Trust. The National Committee has representation from each region in England.
o Members are able to vote at AGMs and be nominated for Trusteeship as and when openings are available.

Sharing experiences & networking

We also offer members access to our exclusive section of our website which is full of resources, toolkits, guidelines and other useful information. This is in addition to our unique interactive intranet sit, Civic Societies Network (CSN). The both the CSN and our members only section of our website offers members a unique opportunity to network and share knowledge and experiences through our live discussion boards, surveys and special interest group area.
Access to a unique range of services and events

Last year we embarked on a modernisation programme to improve and expand our range of membership services. As a result, registered Civic Societies now have access to over 12 different services in addition to existing opportunities to engage in Trust wide programmes, like Heritage Open Days and the Civic Trust Awards.

Our services include a dedicated membership helpdesk dealing with planning and corporate governance issues, our quarterly ‘Grass Roots’ newsletter and regular e-Policy Updates and media briefings. In 2007, we have held 11 FREE regional events for members on built and national environment issues. We also offer our popular insurance package tailored specifically for Civic Trust members. See diagram below for details

Opportunities through programmes for our members to improve, protect and enjoy their local environment

We create opportunities for members to engage in the delivery of our programmes like Heritage Open Days, Civic Trust Awards, Every Action Counts, Green Flag Awards, NightVision and High Street UK. In 2007, over 100 Civic Societies participated in HODS and over 65 Civic Societies conducted their own local design awards.
